2008 Print Edition
I wanted to update everyone on the status of KAM's future plans. A print edition is in the tentative plans for February/March of 2008. I am beginning to work on all that is necessary to make this happen. There are a lot of steps involved to get this magazine printed and to finally get this hobby something it deserves. An outlet and a resource that will be Karaoke Addiction Magazine.
I am having to begin work on some of the biggest challenges that must be realized before the printing of the magazine. The big challenges are: obtaining advertisers, creating the magazine and distributing the magazines. I will explain these challenges so that this letter may help to find those who want to get involved.
Advertisers:
Without advertisers, this magazine will not exist. KAM will provide a great outlet for all types of karaoke, music and bar related advertisers. The first printing is expected to be at 10,000 copies at around 32 pages on 50# paper in full color on every page. The magazine will be the physical size of the average magazine but resemble the paper of what you might see in a typical newspaper special section. If the magazine is successful, we will certainly consider moving to the glossy, typical magazine paper. Ads in the magazine will run from small $25 1/16 page to $300 full page ads.
Creating the magazine:
This challenge is one I am confident in working on. The preview issue we created and posted on this site has prepared us for the print edition. Only small changes will need to be made. New stories will need to be written. I will try to send all interested writers notifications of what stories we're looking for and when we'll need them finished. Not all writers or stories will be accepted. And all writers must complete a simple independent contractor agreement that states what you do (write) and how much you'll earn. I intend to increase the pay for stories after the first few issues. I get a lot of requests for writers, so I expect it won't be hard to find them. Be quick and write great stories and you'll have the advantage over others.
Distributing the magazine:
This may be an easy challenge or it may not. Distributing a free magazine should be easy enough you would think. What I am planning to do is to find KJ's, bars or others who will distribute the free magazine. At 10,000 copies and 100 magazines per box, that means I need to line up 100 distributors. Distributors will not be compensated but KJ's and bars will likely enjoy having it to hand out.
I know these are the biggest challenges for the first print edition of Karaoke
Addiction Magazine. However, I believe that they all can be conquered and this magazine will soon be available. I will keep you posted on all further updates and information about the first edition.
Thanks for reading,
Jason Burchard
