The 2008 Karaoke for the Cure
contest was held in Alachua,
Florida in March to raise funds for
cancer. Local karaoke host Randy
Highsmith organized and ran the
event. Randy said that the event
more than doubled the amount
raised from the previous year.
“I hope we will be able to do this again in 2009
and make an even bigger impact raising even
more money and attracting more contestants.”
Highsmith wrote in an email to KAM.
More than $1,000 was raised for Lyrics for Life,
an organization started by Sister Hazel frontman
Ken Block-- whose brother died from cancer at a
young age.
Nearly thirty contestants competed for several
thousand dollars worth of cash and prizes from
sponsors such as Star Sounds, Chartbuster
Karaoke, Sound Choice, Karaoke Addiction
Magazine and others. The winning singer was
Jennifer Dobson, followed by Jason Barnette and
Antoinette Smith.
