I must say that it has been one cold winter here in Indiana and I am ready for it to be over. I can’t wait until spring. Maybe then, I might even take a much needed vacation. Spring can’t come soon enough.

Here is one thing that is coming this spring... “Karaoke for the Cure” is a karaoke contest that was created as a fundraiser for cancer. This year’s event will be held March 15th, 2008 in the City of Alachua (Florida) Recreation Center Gymnasium. Up to 30 contestants will compete for $8,300 in cash and prizes. Contestants can enter until Feb- ruary 15th, 2008. The entry fee is $35. For more information, visit: http://groups.myspace.com/karaokeforthecureflorida. This year’s event benefits Lyrics for Life -- www.lyricsforlife.org. Karaoke Addiction Magazine has agreed to help sponsor this year’s event. Enter or attend the event and tell Randy Highsmith, the event organizer, that you learned about it in Karaoke Addiction Magazine.

Another contest is already getting started-- The Talent Quest National Karaoke Singing Contest. Local contests are running now until June 30th, with regional contests until August 15th. The national contest runs September 21st to September 28th, 2008 and is held in Laughlin, Nevada. Club/venue sites are being added as they sign-up. See www.talentqst.com for all the details on how to enter through a local contest in your area. You can also sponsor yourself if a local contest is not nearby.

The last thing I wanted to bring up this month, is that I’m considering expanding the area of content with this magazine. How exactly is this possible with the focus on karaoke? The popularity of the Guitar Hero and Rock Band games have sparked the idea of opening stories and advice to include these other musical kind of karaoke hobbies. Don’t fear that this magazine is going to change total focus however. I’m simply considering the inclusion of these hobbies to broaden the scope of readers and advertisers. The first thing I intend to work on with this change is to start including Guitar Hero style contests on the contest page on our website. What do you think about this?
